Margaret Alora (McGuire) Novak is a freelance editor, craft book author, and content strategist. She specializes in developing humorous nonfiction titles, cookbooks, and aspirational lifestyle books. She has had the pleasure of copyediting everything from obscure astrophysics journals and art books to a couple of New York Times best sellers, such as Seth Graham-Smith's Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. While at Quirk Books, she acquired and developed dozens of books like Yum-Yum Bento Box, Marshmallow Madness, Crafting with Cat Hair, and Find Momo (another best seller, at #11 on the specialty best sellers list!) Take a look at a selection of them here. Margaret knows her way around a test kitchen and has directed complex photo shoots for food and wine books and DIY titles. She has been featured in publications such as Women’s World (as a Halloween craft expert), Publisher’s Weekly (as an expert on craft book platform and production values and also on cookbook trends), and Nerve (as, well, an expert on douchebags. But that’s another story).
A life-long baker, Margaret has a small business baking birthday cakes for dogs. To order—or to browse funny pictures of dogs wearing party hats—head on over to the Barkday Cakes website.
Margaret lives in South Philly with her husband and daughter. She volunteers as a moderator for Kids South of Washington. She listens to a lot of Dolly Parton and hardly ever speaks in the third person.
